Galileo Galilei was born Feb. 15, 1564 in Pisa in the Italian kingdom of Tuscany (now Italy). He is well known for being forced to recant his view that the earth is not the center of the universe by the Catholic Church.

The Supreme Court declares it to be illegal to have a purely religious display on government property.

This opinion established the unconstitutionality of nativity scenes and simliar displays on government property when those displays are purely religious in nature. If the display includes secular images, such as Santa next to a nativity scene, then it's acceptable.
